About Me

How does one write about themselves?  It’s always a conundrum for me.  Any description I give you will only be accurate for one point in time.  It’s like looking at a company’s balance sheet or a photograph, that was it/me at that point in time, but it is/isn’t me today.

The information in the upper left is accurate, but I’m sure that most of it will change given some time.

I was born in the year 1967.

We champion the rights and interests of all autistic people and aim to provide autistic individuals and their families with help, support and services that they can access, trust and rely upon and which can make a positive difference to their lives.

Our website includes information about Autism Spectrum Disorder, the TNASA and its services and activities.

Our aim

The aim of the National Autistic Society of America (TNASA) is to improve the lives of autistic people*, either directly, through the provision of services, or indirectly, by influencing awareness, understanding and legislation.

Our Vision

We want a world where autism is understood and autistic people have the support they need to ensure that their rights are upheld and that they have the same opportunities as others in society.

Our Mission

We champion the rights and interests of all autistic people and aim to provide autistic individuals and their families with help, support and services that they can readily access, trust and rely upon and which make a positive difference to their lives.

The Society works to achieve this by:

Developing the provision of services, working with purchasers, statutory bodies, parents and autistic people to develop sustainable solutions.

Raising professional, political and public awareness and  understanding of the needs of autistic people, their  families and carers.

Providing information services and practical support for

autistic* people, their families and carers, either directly,

in partnership with others, or through facilitating and

supporting the work of others.

Informing and driving the legislative program, both in

Washington, D.C. and the devolved institutions, to ensure

that government thinking reflects the needs and interests of

autistic people.

Campaigning and providing information to legislators and

funding bodies to ensure that the needs of autistic people

are understood and that adequate funding for services

is provided.

Sharing best practice across the organization to ensure that

employees and volunteers have an in-depth understanding of

services provided.

Raising funds, through fees, grants and sponsorship and

voluntary donations at the national, regional and local levels.

* On this page the term 'autistic' is used to cover the whole range of ASD which include classic autism and Asperger syndrome.  The National Autistic Society of America is a tax exempt charitable organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Services as a 501 (c) 3 corporation.
